A little surprise from Colson

Today Colson is 5 weeks +  3 days.

This morning I was reading another mama’s blog about sleep schedules. At the end of the post, she was recalling milestones that her daughter had achieved during the fifth week of her life. She mentioned that she wasn’t intending to do tummy time at that moment with her little girl, but decided to lay her down anyway. And BAM, she rolled over.

Well, before our morning feeding, I decided to try the same thing with Colson. Before changing his diaper I laid him on his bedroom floor to see how he’d do. We haven’t done much tummy time recently since he’s supposed to sit up for a longer period after eating. By the time he’s finished being upright, he usually is ready for his nap. Today when I laid him down he was a bit cranky… but I remembered his strong legs a couple weeks ago when he was having tummy time. So I turned on my phone, expecting him to roll over… And he did!

Way to go, my honey boy! Mama and daddy are so proud of you! You are so strong. We love watching you grow.

A hard night…

Today Colson is 3 weeks + 3 days.

Last night was the first night that Colson didn’t fall happily asleep after his middle of the night feeding. I had noticed that for most of the day he was extra gassy. Actually, so was I. Sorry, little fella! And while he ate his midnight snack, I could hear the little gas bubbles rumbling through his tummy. He also seemed extra hungry and the burps/spit-up really bothered him.

Normally, he goes to sleep so easily after a middle of the night feeding and almost immediately closes his eyes once “his head hits the pillow.” Instead, he cried… Hard and very loudly! By the time he was quieting down, we could see the sun starting to peek through our blinds. We ended up letting him sleep the last couple of hours between us on the bed.

I was SO thankful for God’s grace today. We both got a couple of morning naps and he seemed back to his normal routine of eating, playing and resting – right on schedule. As the days go by, I am more and more amazed by God’s strength in my weakness. Despite our difficult evening, I didn’t feel the weight of the tiredness as I expected… And I even got a few chores done around the house too.

After I took these photos, he quietly fell to sleep on his own… Such a sweet fella… And I treasure the pictures of him and Atticus.

Bath and Tummy Time

Today Colson is 3 weeks + 2 days.

This morning I noticed that Colson was starting to stink a little. Sour like… I haven’t ever given him a bath on my own, but I decided that I would try. Ryan headed off to his third day back at work and after feeding the little booger, I setup the bathroom for his sink bath. For the most part it was quite successful! I just hope I got all the soap off his skin. I did notice later in the day that his tummy still had the same “sour smell” I had noticed earlier. I now wonder if it might be the diaper wipes we are using.

After his next feeding I decided to try doing some tummy time. I have heard stories ranging from babies who love it and those who absolutely hate it. I’m pretty sure Colson gets his tummy loving position from his daddy whose favorite way to sleep is the same. Ryan and I had already been noticing his neck strength increasing; I wasn’t super surprised to see him lifting his head with ease. It’s so hard to believe that he’s already growing so quickly!
